Choosing the Right Senior Community
First, the good news. Retirement and senior living choices abound! Even the “nursing home” your grandmother remembers has evolved significantly for seniors in need of nursing or long-term care! With so many choices how do you find the right one for you? Where do you start?
Our advisors are here to not only arrange visits with any one of the thousands of communities within our Elderlife network waiting to serve you, but also help you obtain the financing you need to pay for your senior housing and care. Below, you may also download a guide to each community to help you through your search:
- Are you Independent? If you are doing great on your own but would love a social setting with peers of like minds and interests, there are Independent Living communities and Continuing Care Retirement Communities offering an active, vibrant retirement lifestyle. Some communities simply require a monthly rent and others require an up-front entrance fee that may be refundable in full or in part.
- Do you need a little assistance? If you or a loved one needs assistance with Activities of Daily Living (“ADLs”), then Assisted Living Communities could be a perfect option. Assisted living bridges the gap between living on one’s own, which may not be enough, and living in skilled nursing facility, which may be too much because not much nursing care is needed!
- Is Dementia or Alzheimer’s a concern? Communities may specialize in serving only seniors in need of memory care, or you may also be relieved to know that Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Continuing Care Retirement Communities may have dedicated support options – whether in a separate floor or building.
- Is significant nursing care needed? Then a skilled nursing community may be best. Today there are many options for quality skilled nursing care. Some require private funds and others accept Medicare and Medicaid for your loved one’s long term care.
The good news is you and your family have wonderful choices from which to choose. For assistance in arranging visits, give us a call. Our advisors would be happy to contact any one of our over 2,500 communities that are members of the Elderlife family for you!
